Anyone using D5100 can please suggest or give some good advices about proper and good usages of settings. Beside the standard lens which other lenses one should go for?

Anyone has any good and bad experience about using D5100?

Thanks in advance for replies

I have a D90. It is very close to the D5100.
I’m using mainly my Nikkor 18-200VRII lens witch I thing is just great for traveling.
I also have the tiny Nikkor 35 mm - F/1.8, nice for low light, Tamron 70-200mm - F/2.8 for more speed in not sunny conditions and finally, my last lens is the Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II VC.
I also had a Sigma 105mm - F/2.8 Macro lens that I sold. It's a great lens for extreme closeups. I was just not using it enough.
Good luck with picking up extra lenses.

I'm quite happy so far with my Nikon Micro 40mm 2.8. Light, fast, prime. It lives on my lens now since I bought it a few months ago. Travel photography could mean lots of things, if you want something for landscapes, you should go wider than this. If you do street shots and things, this is a nice lens.

As you said you like nature photography, and you already have the 18-55mm, so the 55-300mm/4.5-5.6 G AF-S VR should be your choice!
Good luck!!

Yea, a kit lens and a telephoto zoom would be great!!! If you could, get a 50mm F1.8 prime, it will compliment your travelling very well. Or get an ultra-wide angle lens if you are serious in landscapes as well )

I have had my D5100 for about a month now. I have the kit lens- which I never use- and the Nikon 55-300mm VR telephoto zoom lens. I absolutely love it. I use it for everything and manual is a breeze. It does pretty good close ups if you back up and zoom in. Next I want a wide angle and a portrait lens.
So far so good, though.
Good luck

I really want a macro for the d5100 - what is the best "bang for the buck" (yes I just did use that expression so sorry! but the price range is soooooo huge) I have looked on both BH photo and adorama. I want a good one, but I want one soon.....Impatience is getting the best of me

Practically all macro lenses are good. Since you hace a cropped size sensor it's a good idea to get something in the 50 or 60 mm range so you can use it for portraits too. Just avoid zooms that claim to have macro attributes cause they usually don't get very close and aren't very sharp-
Nikon have a 60 which is good and not a lot more expensive than the third party manufacturers.
