I shoot a D90 with a Tamron 18-270 and have some nice photos.

I just started using a Tokina 12-24mm (the 11-16 was a little out of my price range). I love it! Have to get up close & personal with subject.

I have a D90 (as well as 2-D80's). I have dedicated a Nikkor 18-135mm and an older D80 for shooting drag race pics. I never change lenses at the race track (too much dust) and I figure if I drop the camera or fall down, I would rather lose a old D80 and even the 18-135mm. I also have a Nikkor 18-70mm and a Sigma 17-35mm f/2.8 full frame lens. But my favorite wide angle is a Tokina 12-24mm and for really wild pics, a 6.5mm f/3.5 Opteka fish eye that I bought new for $250. Wide angle lenses magnify objects in the fore ground for a different and unusual perspective.
