Okay, so i'm thinking about getting new glass..... L glass this time.
I know i have a crop censor, so i know i need to take this into account, but i just can't seem to make up my mind (and after reading reviews and stuff, it got even worse). Hopefully some of you might help me decide. It would be for general use, inside and out, good and bad lighting, you know what i mean.
Can't choose between the.......
Canon EF 24-70mm F/2.8 L USM this is a 2.8, but no IS
Canon EF 24-105mm F/4.0 L USM iS IS but only F4
or just maybe
Canon EF 70-200mm F/2.8 L iS II USM it's a 2.8 with IS, but only starting at 70mm.... on a crop, i'l loose to much on the wide angle i guess...... and wallet
So if any of you have experience with these, any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks in advance

I just recently bought the 24-70 2.8 L USM and I don´t miss the IS. You could wait for the new one but this cost the same as the 70-200. My last 2 sets are made with that glass, have a look.

Thanks Gerd, Just had a look at your sets, nice!! I'm just a bit scared about shooting inside in low light without the IS. I know i can always use a tripod, and/or flash. But there again, could do that wth the 24-105 as well. Ach, it's a difficult decision, especially when looking at those prices, don't want to be disappointed after spending that much. Pfff i've seen the price of the new 24-70, jeeeeee ....€2600+!!! It's crazy, my wife would shoot me..... with a gun

I don't want to sway you away form a lens that you might get but, I would go for the 24-105mm f4. I know the 2.8 is really nice but the 24-105 has IS and in my opinion, that goes along way for indoor shots. The constant f4 across the zoom is great and for indoor you would probably end up using flash anyway. Can't really shoot 2.8 with a group of people unless your at a decent distance away I would think. 24mm would be about 36-40 on your camera I believe and in my experience it is good enough for group shots and some landscapes. The 105 on the long end would be great for portraits and other things as well. I'm a nikon guy but I've tried the 24-105mm canon and similar lenses on a nikon, and its still great on a crop sensor. All the lenses you mentioned are great but I would go with the 24-105mm if I was buying today. Hope that helps.
I guess it makes a difference what you mainly like to shoot, lots of shallow dof bokeh objects or mainly people?

I take back my comment about 2.8, that was dumb. I guess you have to think about what focal length you shoot with more, and what type of photography do you do most (people, landscapes etc)
I think what I was trying to say is, if you shoot mainly people the 24-105mm will work great indoor with a flash and outdoors wonderfully also. Both are fantastic lens from what I've seen and tried.

haha, no such thing as a dumb answer ;-) .
Anyway, i have a great 10-22 if i need wide angle shots, and also a 50 F1.4 (both Canon) But i am sort of leaning a bit more to the 24-105, because it has the IS, and i get a little more distance play. And come to think of it, if i get that one, i'm still able to get the 70-300 F4L IS usm for the same price as the 70-200 F2.8L IS usm.... that's 2 L lenses for the price of one .... (or just the one, and some other goodies)..... very tempting to be honest ;-)
Anyway, i shoot all sorts of stuff, and people..... hence the reason for good all rounders.
Thanks for your input sooch!!!

Have you considered the 17-55 2.8? I know it's not an L lens but it is generally considered to be the best "all round" lens for Canon cropped sensors and you get both 2.8 and IS

Yes i have, and damn it... it made it more difficult...... But i was thinking of buying an L lens with an eventuel upgrade to an FF body in mind. And as EF-S lenses don't fit on a FF body, i don't want to spend that amount of money on something i won't be able to use as and when i do switch over. And as mentioned, i already have the 50 1.4, and the 10-22, so i'm okay for wide angle shooting. Even though i have those, i mostly use my 17-85 anyway ... even for indoor shooting.
Thanks for your input.!

The aficionados say the 24-105 has poor micro contrast. just so you know. ;)
