I have a canon xti in the shop for noise troubles and on the verge of upgrading to the 30d or 40d.
I am sure the 30d ($1000) would fit my needs just fine. My question is.... what should I upgrade to from my kit 18-55. There are questions like... am I going to go to full frame (not EF-s compatable) and how expensive makes a difference in image quality. Advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

See my thread under Digital Photography / Canon for more info about 40D. FF may lead to serious vignetting on recent lenses designed specifically for APS-C sensors. 30d does not have weatherproofing; 40d does have more and is efs compatible.
In the days of film, people could afford to buy a cheap body and splash out more on lenses. Unfortunately, both are now important. See my forum post in same section on lens lust and seriously consider the EF24-70 f/2.8 L. You'll spend more on this than on the body, but you'll keep it for as long as you own a Canon. As of mid-March, rumours abound about the replacement for the venerable Canon 5d, the first FF in the Canon range. As with everything electronic, once it's out it's already obsolete, but that means (for me, at least) that the 30D and the 5D have to be seriously cheap to make them attractive, as their feature set is now realy behind the market.
