well i quite often become interested in the other comments i see in someone's guestbook, and find myself exploring further into other blogs , and making great discoveries because of it. Nothing beats a little adventure in this over rationalised and unimaginative era of ours. Follow up comments too, are interesting but the choice is always there to switch to a message. I think some people do not use the message option because it does give the sense of being utterly familiar with someone, and i am certainly very aware of how easy overfamiliarity can be on the internet. that is prehaps a generational thing, not shared by those brought up on message chat services!. Comments can always be deleted anyway; just press a button. For those who have an alternative understanding of what a guestbook, or message is, prehaps there should be an option to customise when setting up their account. My own feeling is that if you have been a guest on someones blog, then a guestbook is a fairly reasonable place to have your comments appear, or even a conversation if you wish, and that a message is sent to make some personal and private observation if required. Each to his own. ?:o)
