I subscribed to a friend, however I never receive notices of their post. Why?

This has been happening to me for a while. I would delete the subscription and resubscribe, and I'd receive notifications for a while. Then it would stop again.
I finally just deleted the subscription altogether and use the Browse Friends link to view new entries.
