The discussion as old as computing has entered our homes. I personally started on PCs and I thought they were great at the time and maybe they were 'cause I didn't know any better.

I switched to Apple about 5 years ago....firstly at work, slowly testing the water etc. Then when I was made redundant I bought my first own Apple PowerBook G4, that was just over 3 years ago. I sold that one 2 months ago (in a pub) for whooping £600!!!!! Now I am on 17" Apple MacBook Pro hosting Intel 2.33 GHz Dual Core Duo 2 processor and I would never go back to misarable and insecure world of Microsoft.

What is your story? What Apple computer have you got? Are you thinking about switching?

P.S. All avid Bill Gates lovers - there is no need to be offensive here, lol.

I stick to PC.
I used Mac once for a while,... but after all the glory stories it had stinky time too... it did crash, hard disk read fail, and lots of frustrating time when I work with video. Fairy tale will be fairy tale,.. at least I am more familiar with PC and its system, when something happens I can guess the cause and I can fix the problem. There are lots of resources out there on PC too, I can learn more and be better in handling the situation. Mac? nahh.... after all their latest ad campaign (Mac vs PC video series) keep attacking the other side, I hate when people do that in competition.

I'm going to offend everyone here... becuase I'm going to say something that some users (both PC and Mac) forget.

What is the primary aim of using your computer? Its to get something done.... it can edit an image, index images, write letters, view emails, and a multitude of other things.

What matters is the application... not the hardware that sits on the desk.

So this Mac vs PC debate always makes my brain go numb. Its not the hardware.. its the application.

(and in case you're wondering, I have a pair of macs and one PC at home, 41 Windows 2000/XP desktop clients, 8 Windows 2003 Servers, and a multitude of Red Hat Linux servers running web sites... so I have a feeling I'm in the right job)

When it comes to workflow, for me, I've lumped myself with the Mac crowd. When it comes to entertainment, then I'm mostly with the PC lot.

Its *needs* .... not the hardware....

Yes, I can see your point but what about combination of software and hardware beeing developed by the same company (ie. Apple). It always seem to work better. I must say that PC's are much better for office work (I work on one at work) or maybe they are not.

I just shut up now...what do I know.

it's true that application is the key for your work, but don't forget applications stand on hardware! Application is merely a set of formulas and algorithms that tells hardware what to do, simply in binary language. Now the thing is sometime the hardware that creates problem, the memory allocation, processing modules crash, no matter how good your application is, if your hardware fails to be smart, it is a stupid workstation!

Well if a train station is where a train stops.. then what happens at a workstation? ;)

Linux OS, more so slackware on a PC..

I HATE!!!! windows with a passion. I do have it on a laptop to test out the site on IE6/7. I like mac's but I would never use one. I am not a fan of all the eye candy they offer.

At home I use PC, but with no trace of Windows - only Linux, namely Ubuntu 6.06.
But as a journalist I used to work mostly with Macs, which I prefer. So for me the best solution when I collect soe money would be a Mac with Ubuntu and MacOS in the same time

I use PC. I do have some experience with 20 inch iMacs in school, but tat only make me wana stick with my pc more. My 3 years old dell laptop beat those iMacs(I know they are not the fastest macs, but my laptop's only 12 inch and cost me 1k 3 years ago).
The thing is, with PC you got much more options, both hardware and software wise. So you have better performance/$.

p.s. the mighty mouse really sucks, I usually plug my microsoft laptop mouse($10) into the iMac.

I was a hardcore PCer at one point, I didnt fully realize the whole world of macs. But now because I am into photography so much, I found that it really suits my creativity better then a PC. I have had a Powerbook g4 12" now for.. 3 years. I have only run into screen wear problems.

i also have to agree that PCs work better for the general work environment if your at a sit at a desk and type up useless informtation, which I catch myself doing here..at work.

Macs and PC. both have their pros and cons. Personally, I'm a MAC FAN (when it comes to work. Colors and all. mac is the way to go.) GAMING Wise.... ehehehe... I'm sorry. PC RULES!

Owning both gives you best of both worlds. Don't have to debate. GET BOTH!

eidea
i hate both. the computer i like has to be invented yet.

I have, use and enjoy both. But truth be told...Macs really do rule.
pixel
pixkid
I have both... but Mac rules! Windows gets cluttered and heavy with programs. Plus, they're insecure! Some say that a Mac is Windows with Linux, and this is very easy to believe. Soon, i'll get my Mac laptop, and then have the best computer. Goodbye, Windows! Macs manage photography better, not to mention cinematography: iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and more!
