See she just used the normal drawing pen for make up.

Simple and poor condition dressing area.

The performer of the first picture after dress up.

I feel so exciting today as I can go to backsatge to take pictures. Chinese opera backstage used to be the prohibited area for public because of the taboo and custom i.e. not allows to take picture while the performers are making up.

PS. This opera team is came from Santou of mainland China. The daily wages of the performers is just US$7.00. They are very professional though the wages is low.

They must really be passionate about their profession to work for so little money! I can imagine you were nervous... but the result is fantastic! And especially in that difficult artificial lightening. Great expressions on the faces... full of concentration! Very unique set!

These backstage shots are brilliant!! Thank you for sharing them with us. I was fortunate enough to see an opera while in Suzhou, it was amazing. Your shots remind me of this.
