Wood Thrush

I was going to post more Annapolis photos today -- of the Naval Academy, but I'm jonesing for nature on my blog right now and give you instead this Wood Thrush I spotted on my Sunday walk in the woods. If you've never heard this bird's song, it's worth Googling for a recording. I did it for you: http://www.learnbirdsongs.com/birdsong.php?id=32

I once met a birder in the woods who told me that the only thing that helped him get through his post-migration blues -- once all the colorful warblers had fled the woods -- was the song of the Wood Thrush. It's hauntingly beautiful and flute-like for such a modest-looking bird. Our American Robin is in the thrush family as well, and you may see a resemblance.

astrobrojler In Europe live more species from this family, song thrush among them. As its name indicates he also has musical talent, but to be honest - your wood thrush sounds better for me :) But their stage image are quite similar - no chance in MTV I'm affraid ;)

ncshutterbug Beautiful photo!

*sigh* Annapolis. I love that city. I used to love the crab dip at Riordan's, and was seriously bummed to hear that it has closed. You wouldn't happen to know anyone with the recipe, would you?
