The light bouncing off the wet nacre of this clam shell reminded me of Steinbeck's novel in which the poor fisherman, Kino, found the Pearl of Great Price that utterly changed his life. It blinded him with its beauty and elusive promise of wealth at first, but ended up robbing him of everything he held dear -- leaving his life as barren as an empty gray shell.
