Two New Flowers

2008.07.01
Monarda (a.k.a. Bee Balm)
This one seems to be doubling itself -- one flower giving birth to another. I love its architecture.

Cosmos
These are annuals that seem to reseed and "volunteer" to decorate my garden again each year. What is interesting about this flower, though, is that I never planted this variety of stripy-petaled cosmos.

Every morning, I love to go outside and see what has felt ready to open in the garden after another day of sunshine. The Monarda is almost hummingbird-worthy, and this variegated cosmos is a lovely "volunteer."

Happy July!

emilith9 I think the first one looks like a lady. Maybe dancing.

Carley Beautiful, both of them! I've never seen anything like the first one. I also have volunteer cosmos in my garden, but have never seen the striped variety. I wonder if it's a mutation?

ncshutterbug Wow - that first one is so interesting! I'm going to add it to my list of possibilities.
