Mackworth Island in Falmouth, Maine has been the home of the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf since the mid-1950's. There is a beautiful trail around the perimeter of the entire island, and these first several photos were taken on our walk there.

In the middle of the trail is a wooded area in which children and adults have stopped for years to build fairy houses with the natural materials that have fallen to the ground on the island. We were inspired to seek out this place by the book Fairy Houses, though it was Monhegan Island that is visited in that story.
