I’m travelling to Sheffield today and my train north left from St. Pancras station in London. The station has recently been completely restored to its former glory and updated to accommodate the Eurostar trains so it seemed daft not to bring a camera. Kevin’s borrowed my SLR so these were taken using my Canon compact digital camera instead. The first one shows the wonderful wrought iron structure of the station which has been restored – I like the repeating patterns the arches create. The second photo is a statue of John Betjeman, one time poet laureate, presumably trying to decide where to travel to! The third photo is of the window above the original booking office – I liked the way you can see reflections of the metal and glass roof in the windows.

Great set. It was John Betjeman who campaigned to stop the original station building from being demolished. Thank goodness he succeeded so we can see it in all its glory now. Love that 1st pic. Lynda · 2008-05-02: 12:24
