Portchester Castle
2008.12.30
I went to a shop in Portchester this afternoon to pick up an external hard drive I’d ordered to back up my photos and decided to take a short detour to Portchester Castle while I was there. In spite of all the years I’ve lived round here I’ve never visited the castle before so I was interested to see it close up rather than from Portsmouth, on the other side of the harbour. The main castle is in a pretty ruinous state (although predictably covered in lots of scaffolding!) but there is also a church, St. Mary’s, within the castle’s outer walls. It’s obviously used regularly for worship and the graveyard is well maintained. Of the shots I took this afternoon this was my favourite, focussing on one of the many memorials, with the outer walls of the castle in the distance behind.
