The weather here has been truly amazing over the last couple of weeks. I can’t remember a winter this cold for years (although I know cold is a relative thing – for many countries our weather would merely be slightly chilly!). The temperature has barely risen above freezing since the end of December and as a result there have been almost permanent patches of frost in the parts of our garden which don’t catch the sun. I decided to make the most of this and take some photos of the frosty bits this afternoon. Sadly there was no sunshine so I created a little of my own with a torch to illuminate the ice crystals a little better. While I was out in the garden I also noticed some rather impressive icicles hanging from the cage that surrounds the outlet from our boiler. It’s a condensing boiler so it’s always puffing clouds of steam across the garden in cold weather. I guess the steamy water droplets have been freezing on the metal frame and gradually building up into icicles when there hasn’t been any sun melt them.
