One of my tasks at school this term has been to take photos of all the staff within the music department. This has taken quite a lot of persuasion and cajoling on my part but I’m gradually making progress. The purpose of these photos is to create a ‘rogues gallery’ of the staff on a wall in the department for the children and their parents to see. Of course this means I will need to have my photo up there too so I decided to try my hand at a self portrait today. It’s harder than I thought – very difficult to get the focussing just right as, of course, the subject of the photo is always behind rather than in front of the camera when you’re setting it all up! I took 91 shots in total and deleted 86 of them. This was the one I liked best, although I’d still like my eyes to be better in focus. All I need to do now is persuade the remaining 15 staff to pose for me…

I like it! But yes, I agree that the eyes should be better in focus. But then taking a self portrait would not be easy since getting the right focus would almost be like a shot in the dark. Did you use the manual or the auto focus? pearlie · 2009-02-07: 10:43
