When time stands still

When I went out this morning it seemed as though someone had forgotten to send any weather to Chichester – just lots of grey, dull sky. As a result I only took my little compact camera with me when I went into town as I was very doubtful that I’d find a decent image in such dreary lighting. However, as I wandered past the eastern end of the Cathedral I noticed this rather splendid new sundial. (There’s another one near the west door which doesn’t look anything like as good as its style, the metal rod that indicates the time, was struck by lightning a few years back and is decidedly wonky now.) This one has been added recently as part of the renovations to the stonework and it looks resplendent with its blue numbers and golden fleur-de-lys. Of course today it wasn’t able to show the time as there was absolutely no sun – it was as if time had stood still in this quiet corner of Chichester. I decided to give it a timeless monochrome effect and added a vignette to draw attention to the centre of the dial.

lookagain Very interesting - nice angle. At least it was good for something on a cloudy day :)

NellyBly Brilliant! That is true, no sun..no time. (That may be a huge drawback to that way of keeping time) :-))

Lynda Nice shot but I would like to see the blue and gold version, too.
