I was at a bit of a loss as to what to shoot for today’s photo so this afternoon I went out in the garden armed with my camera and macro lens, determined to find a subject. It was very windy so leave and flowers were something of a non-starter but as I wandered around I spotted some nuts (hazelnuts I think) lying on the grass. I don’t remember the tree they fell from having produced nuts before (although this is only our third summer living here) but it’s covered in them at the moment – I wonder whether they’re an edible variety? I liked the colour and texture of this particular specimen so I brought it into my music room and set about photographing it. I tried various approaches but in the end I like the dreamy effect I’ve caught here by using my lens at its maximum aperture of f2.8.

Yes it's a hazel nut Helen, You know there is always a fine line between letting the shots come to you and on the other hand being determind to find 'something' and going out with the intension of creating something...I tend to be in the former camp, but you prove here that a determined mind can produce and excellent result :-) ????? · 2009-08-21: 04:40
