In memory of Lucy and Rebecca (Neighbourhood theme)
I first had the idea for today’s photo back in June when Kevin and visited our village social club to vote in the European and local elections. This lovely sculpture sits in the club grounds, in memory of two sisters, Lucy and Rebecca, who were tragically killed in a car accident in 2005 at the ages of 12 and 15 respectively. I never met them, but they went to a local school and lived in our village. The sculpture actually includes the heads of two horses, back to back, but of course there’s no way to show this in one photo. As I got up this morning the sun was just beginning to peep through so I thought it might be a good moment to take some photos of Beckie and Lucy’s memorial on my way to work. It also struck me as being a very appropriate image for the neighbourhood theme as it is placed at a centre of the village’s social life and commemorates two people who lived here too. I think it’s a lovely way to remember these two girls and I think the warm early morning sunshine sets it off beautifully.
