The nostalgia of childhood

2009.10.25

I was inspired to take today’s photo after seeing an article in one of my photography magazines about a chap who enjoys photographing old toys. It got me thinking about the toys I’d enjoyed most as a child. I was never into the usual girls’ toys like dolls – I had more of a soft spot for teddy bears, Lego and toy cars (you can see why I take so many photos of cars can’t you?!). I decided to feature this chap today. His name is Boo as my Mum and Dad used to use him to play peekaboo with me when I was a child. I’ve had him as long as I can remember – my Mum knitted him and he’s stuffed with her old tights. He’s still wearing his original pair of dungarees (also knitted by Mum) and is now rather floppy but he’s still got a definite charm. He sits on the blanket box in our bedroom these days with a collection of more modern teddy bears, watching the world go by – a very suitable retirement pastime for a bear of his years I think!
