I had to go into Chichester to run a few errands today so I took my camera with me and kept my eyes open for something photogenic for today’s post. St. John’s Chapel was open and I took a brief look inside but it was as I left that I noticed this rather elegant boot scraper outside. I guess this would have received more use when the chapel was built in 1813 than today, with horses or walking being the main modes of transport at the time. I’m sure it’s seen a few muddy boots in its time. I liked the combination of the elegant wrought iron and the rough texture created by the peeling green paint and orange rust. I wonder when it was last used?!
