Pointing skywards (theme)
I must admit my photo today has a pretty tenuous link with the Wednesday ‘sky’ theme but it was the best I could do as the sky here today was a very bland grey and deeply boring! Instead I went for a wander around Chichester Cathedral during my lunch break in search of a subject that was up near the sky. This spiral staircase leads up to the Arundel Screen, a carved stone archway that crosses the nave, just in front of the choirstalls. Every year my school recorder ensemble plays from here at the beginning of the Christmas carol service, although last year I got into trouble with one of the Vergers for taking them up there. The fact that I’d been doing so for 15 years didn’t seem to wash with him in light of current health and safety madness! It was therefore somewhat ironic that this particular Verger walked past just as I was sat on the floor right underneath the staircase with my camera taking this shot today. No doubt it has just confirmed his view that I’m completely crazy! My justification for using this shot for the theme is that at least the stairs do lead you upwards, in the general direction of the sky – tenuous I know but it was the best I could do!
