A face in the crowd

I travelled up to Yorkshire today in readiness for my summer school which starts tomorrow. On my way to Beverley I stopped off if York to meet up with my friend Felicity who I haven’t seen for ages. We had a lovely catch up over coffee and cakes in Betty’s tea rooms then went for a stroll along the Shambles, York’s narrowest street. We ended up in a shop called ‘Duttons for Buttons’ which was an absolute treasure trove of, you’ve guessed it, buttons. Apparently they stock over 12,000 different types! I bought some mother of pearl ones in gorgeous vivid colours which will no doubt be featured here on a future rainy day. After Fliss and I parted company I wandered back towards the Minster, arriving with about an hour to spare before closing time. Thanks to the dire weather outside it was very gloomy inside but I found this chap looking down over the crowds of tourists with his harp and I rather liked his intense stare.

djnana Whoever the artist was, he gave this fellow wonderful, chiselled features - love his eyes and carved cheekbones. This is really a neat image. I could stare at him for days!

Wasichseh I always wonder if the sculptors had real people as models.
