We finally had a cat flap fitted this week to allow Lucy some more freedom. We never bothered fitting one for Gracie as she had proved herself incapable of working the one at our old house unless it was propped open (despite lots of bribery to try!) and she became very adept at letting us know when she wanted to go in and out. Lucy has been showing signs of being a pretty intelligent moggy so we thought we’d take the plunge and hack a hole in one of the doors for her. Her catflap (a very clever one which responds to her microchip) was fitted on Monday afternoon and by Tuesday she’d mastered the art of exiting the house, although she seemed reluctant to try coming back in. I put a couple of paving slabs outside the door to make it a less mountainous climb and demonstrated the technique by pushing her through the flap from outside. However, this didn’t seem to have done the trick and we were planning to give her some more tuition this weekend. When I left for work today she was out in the garden so I was delighted to arrive home this afternoon to find her sitting on a seat inside which she could only have reached via the catflap – success! I decided Lucy’s newfound feline freedom was worthy of a photograph and she posed very obligingly in the sunshine for me.
