After a day spent slaving over a hot computer I decided to go down to the beach this evening for a spot of sunset hunting. My favourite beach was a non-starter as the car park there is locked for the night at 8.30pm – no use at all when sunset isn’t until 9.15! Instead I headed for East Wittering, a couple of miles along the coast. When I arrived the tide was on its way in but to get any shots of the eastwards sky with the sea in the foreground I realised I would have to stand in the water. I went in a couple of times, leaving my sandals on the beach but it was pain having to go back and collect them before moving continuing my walk. I then remembered the black bin bag which lives in my camera bag (usually used for lying on to get close ups of flowers at ground level) so I threw my sandals in it, tied the it to my camera bag and paddled my way along the beach! I’d never realised before how clearly you could see the Portsmouth skyline from East Wittering, with its distinctive Spinnaker Tower. To the south the Isle of Wight was clearly visible, with the sky above it taking on a totally different hue. In all I spent just over an hour strolling along the beach and came home with masses of photos, some good some bad, as well as rather wrinkly toes from spending so long wading through the waves!
