Apologies for the pun – I couldn’t resist! After a spot of retail therapy in Portsmouth this morning I headed home along the sea front and stopped off in search of today’s photo. The strength of the wind came as something of a surprise when I got out of the car and I rapidly lost the will to fight my way onto the beach with my camera. About the only thing moving nearby were a couple of foolhardy cyclists and some sea birds, some of which posed for my cameras I sat in the car with the window open. I’d always assumed these birds were terns but, having just done some research, I think they’re actually black-headed gulls which, of course, makes a complete nonsense of my title for this post!

Don't worry, we could pretend that they are terns, I am sure they don't care one way or the other...! excellent photo, you get the impression that it is blustery and unpleasant just by the way they are standing looking all dejected, I think you were probably wise to stay in the car...!
