Chilling out on a Sunday morning

There were several cygnets enjoying a snooze in the sunshine. This one was eyeing me up very carefully!

Some of the Cackling Canada Geese were also feeling chilled out.

A Buzzard came and landed on a nearby dead tree as I sat in the Kingfisher Hide. Sadly the kingfishers were nowhere to be seen!

The Greylag Geese are evidently the resident bullies, trying grab food from visitors before smaller birds get a look in, although this particular one was more interested in sunbathing this morning!

I set off extra early for my rehearsal in Gloucester today and took a detour on my way there to the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Slimbridge. For a while I wondered why I was bothering as it got colder, murkier and wetter the further west I drove. However, by the time I reached Slimbridge the sky had cleared and the sun was shining. The birds were certainly enjoying the warm weather and I found a lot of them sunning themselves. As I walked around I encountered lots of birds who were very pleased to relieve me of the bird seed I’d bought in the visitors’ centre. The Cackling Canada Geese were particularly sweet and were very happy to eat gently from my hands, although several times I had to fend off a bullying gang of Greylag Geese who seemed to think they should have first call on any food that was on offer!

Geese can be brutal!! Love the buzzard ,I saw one today sitting in a field in the stubble..obviously it had just enjoyed a nice meal. What a great set..the first is my favourite!

I couldn't possible choose a favorite because they're all so wonderful. But I love the soft variations in color for the first one. So perfectly shot.
