The inspiration for St. Agnes

For our final morning with Yulia we took a drive to Stansted Park for a walk around the gardens and a spot of lunch in the Pavilion Cafe. All of the buildings on site were shut for the winter but we took a look around the outside of the chapel and this door caught my eye. Having done a little research I discovered that this chapel, built in 1812, was the inspiration for John Keats’ 1819 poem The Eve of St Agnes.

MoMac Lovely textures. Was the door actually white?

maharba I like looking at images like this one and knowing when it was built so that I can consider the hands that put it together.

revenant I remember reading it as the romantic poetry equivalent of soft porn (well, why not?). BTW, why is lunch always available in spots? Happy new year to you and husband and cats and students. Be well.
