Every year the RSPB organise a ‘Big Garden Birdwatch’ where members of the public watch the birds in their gardens for an hour and record how many of each species they saw. I would have taken part with the event today (as I did last year) but with all the mild weather we’ve been having lately the birds we would normally see in our garden have been almost entirely absent. I guess they must have enough natural food available so they haven’t needed our birdfeeders. Instead I decided to go to the WWT centre at Arundel for a couple of hours and see what birdlife I could photograph there. Although it’s mainly a centre for wetland birds they have a couple of areas with feeders for smaller birds and these were a hive of activity. It’s a particularly good spot for photography too as there are lots of natural looking perches around the feeders so it’s relatively easy to catch some natural looking bird portraits.
