Gardening in monochrome

I love the Victorian greenhouses and cold frames at West Dean - I think it's wonderful that such old structures are still in use and well maintained. This is the maker's logo from the side of one of the cold frames.
The trunk of one of the garden's fig trees - this one is about 100 years old and it still fruits well every year.
It just wouldn't have been right if I hadn't popped in to see Hortus. She was resting up in her favourite spot in the fig house when I found her.
I popped up to West Dean Gardens with my Mum and Dad this morning for a cuppa in the cafe and while I was there I took the opportunity to catch a few photos in the walled gardens. There aren’t too many flowers at the moment but I still found some unusual subjects and, of course, said hello to Hortus, the resident cat!
yetloh Good shots,Helen. Hortus doesn't look her age. Had you noticed the gnoemlike face in the fig tree?

danrav Hortus looks so great! She is a real looker!!!! That fig tree is a real beauty. My Grandma had one when I was a kid. She tended that tree like it was her xchild. Her and my Grandfather would wrap it every winter to keep it warm and protect it from the cold winters. I wonder if it's still there??

josy63 As usual textures are so real, so evident as my hands caress the trunk of the fig tree and the back of the cat :)

Annbramwell Wow that fig tree is amazing... it looks like it may be spawining an orc though, I am sure if you looked again tomorrow at the same spot, there would be an orc shaped hole in the trunk...!
