All change on the automotive front

Bye-bye Mini. The weather seemed to sense it was a sad moment, creating a foggy backdrop to my farewell photos.

Hello Fiesta! And the sun eventually came out too.

Many of you will know how much I like cars and will have seen photos of my Mini Cooper S here on Photoblog. Much as I loved my Mini, over recent years I’ve become more and more frustrated with its lack of reliability. After yet another large bill to repair something that shouldn’t have gone wrong with the engine back in December I decided I’d had enough – it had to go! With the ever increasing cost of fuel I decided to finally grow up and go for a sensible car which would hopefully save me some money. This morning I took delivery of my new wheels – a Ford Fiesta Econetic. This is the Fiesta’s most ecologically friendly incarnation, with a super-efficient diesel engine and various weight saving and aerodynamic tweaks. In fact it is so efficient that I don’t have to pay for road tax and Ford reckon it should give me over 65 miles to the gallon – it remains to be seen if their estimates actually have any bearing on reality! Whatever, happens I should still get many more miles from a tank than the Mini gave me and while it’s not the speediest car in the world it’s still got a reasonable amount of poke and handles well. I must admit the speed-freak in me will miss the Mini’s 175 horsepower but if I’m desperate for a speed fix I can always borrow Kevin’s Porsche Boxster for the day!

danrav What a beauty, Helen. Good luck with the new "ride" We don't have the diesel model in the US that I know of.

Annbramwell It's always sad saying goodbye to an old car... but when you have a nice new snazzy model to move to it does help to soften the blow...
