Stepping out

I had to go to Emsworth this afternoon to put up some posters for a concert I’m playing in there next weekend so I took my camera along to seek out my daily photo. Sadly the sunny weather we enjoyed yesterday was long since gone and the tide was out there were pretty slim pickings in terms of seaside vistas. However, this chap came striding purposefully past me along the harbour wall at some speed and instinct told me to take his picture – I have no idea why! I managed to catch just one frame with my nifty-fifty before he was gone. What seemed a fairly unprepossessing image in colour (mostly thanks to the overcast conditions) somehow seems to work better in black and white. I wonder where he was heading for?

josy63 I find this B&W perfect with this "silhouette" which gets loose perfectly and goes of a step decided towards the adventure :)

danrav I love it when people of purpose are captured on film - as you have done with this man! And yes, the B&W really adds to his pace and focus.

lookagain Oh, yeah, I love it....but you know me and B/W ;)) When the color doesn't matter and the composition and tones are right....I say go for it!! Wonderful image, Helen! You may know this - I didn't until I attended a photo class a few weeks ago. The instructor said the best B/W shots had tones that ranged from complete whiteness, to complete blackness. I see the one above does just that!
