Our venue for the Northern Recorder Course this week is Bawtry Hall
near Doncaster. Bawtry Hall is currently used for residential courses and conferences but it had a strategically crucial role for the RAF between 1941 and 1984 when it was the location of Bomber Command
. Our evening playing sessions are held in the old Command Room and it’s very odd to think that Sir Winston Churchill once sat there (apparently he had his own personal leather chair in one corner) overseeing missions such as the Dambusters raids of 1943. I’m hoping to take some more photos around the interior during the week but today I decided to focus on the hall’s main entrance.
