I had some time to spare this afternoon so I went down to Southsea to an exhibition of long exposure photography by Andrew Whyte. I first came across Andrew’s work via articles in Advanced Photographer magazine and I love his creative approach to shooting the stars and creating artistic effects using flashes and torches. As well as showing his photos Andrew was also offering an interactive experience and I couldn’t resist creating a photo for today’s post with his help. My silhouette in this image was created by aiming one of Andrew’s flashguns at the wall, then I made the swirls of colour but wafting a light-sabre like torch (which automatically changes colour as you wave it) around, all during a twenty second exposure. I can see how this could become very addictive – it’s such fun experimenting and never knowing quite how the end result will turn out. Thank you Andrew for being so generous with your time and advice today – I can see I’ll be trying this again very soon!
