Early morning call

2012.05.17

Eyeing up the early morning visitors...
pixel
It was so early the swans couldn't even be bothered to raise their heads for me!
pixel
I've never had much luck with Mandarin Ducks before but this one seemed very happy to pose for me today.
pixel
I love the quirky reflection in this shot.
pixel
pixel
Even the pheasants seemed a bit more chilled out so early in the day.
pixel
The White Faced Whistling Ducks were very inquisitive this morning. I found myself being followed by five of them at one point!
pixel
pixel
The sun peeped through just as I snapped the shutter for this shot, making the water droplets sparkle nicely.
pixel
This particular Eider Duck was limping and eventually decided to sit down instead of trying to outrun all the photographers. I don't know if ducks can look disdainful but I think this one does!
pixel
The baby moorhens were very cute - I can't help but hope this one will eventually grow into its legs!

"What are you looking at?!"

A few weeks ago I was supposed to attend an early morning photography workshop at the Arundel Wetlands Centre but it was cancelled due to bad weather. It was rescheduled for today so I was up with the lark at 5.45am and out taking photos of the birds on the reserve at 7am. While the tutor didn’t really tell us anything I didn’t already know it was lovely being among such a small group and having early morning access to the birds. Many of the birds seemed more inquisitive than usual and I managed to catch photos of some species I’ve not had much luck with before.

mwbergeron01 All are awesome! Helen I love your closes-ups of these Ducks and Geese! You got perfect colors and light on the Wood Ducks! And the composition on #2 is gorgeous and unique!

Annbramwell I thoroughly enjoyed this set of quirky, disdainful and just plain beautiful birds, they could be straight from the pages of a RSPB guide book, the details are so crisp and clear...
