Jubilee? What jubilee?!
Over the last few days the whole of the UK seems to have been obsessed by the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. However, with all my travelling and concerts around the country this weekend I have managed to miss the celebrations almost entirely. Today brought yet another concert, this time in Bognor Regis. After we’d finished our pre-concert rehearsal I decided to take a quick stroll around the town and grabbed the opportunity to buy a strong cup of coffee too – very necessary after so many late nights! Of course, I took my camera with me on my walk and I managed to find several interesting people to photograph who were going about their business, apparently not minding the fact that they were missing the jubilee celebrations. However, this chap seemed most intriguing as he stared into the distance while sitting in the sunshine.
It seems rather appropriate to use a photo from Bognor during this jubilee period as the town is notorious for its own connection with royalty. In 1929 King George V came to Bognor to convalesce after a period of ill health. When asked if he would consider bestowing the Regis suffix on the town to mark his time there he is supposed to have said “Bugger Bognor!” – a sentiment no doubt uttered by many a visitor to the town since as it’s one of those places people either seem to love or hate!
