Guayasamin had been carrying out his greatest and most ambitious project: La Capilla del Hombre (The Chapel of the Man) before his death. This chapel is an architectural space built in the heights of Quito. It has a series of murals, a memory referring to the American man, from the pre-colonial world, passing through the Conquest and the Colonial Era, up to the contemporary “mestizaje” of America.
