Sometimes on a sunny day, I feel like I am raindrops.
Like dribs of rain, I would drop by several places before I could ever reach my home. Two of my stops were quite memorable today.
I stopped at a flower shop dangerously located along a narrow street called Old Route 11. My eyes were instantly hypnotized by the vibrant reds, yellows, oranges and pinks. It didn’t take me long to decide and so I got me four lovely tulip buds. I felt light like drizzling rain.
Then I walked inside a pottery shop owned by a jolly old man with purple hair and spent half an hour or so in there. I could have been a torrential rain.
The owner talked quite lengthily about the pieces on display. His enthusiasm and passion for the craftsmanship put in each beautiful piece of pottery was admirable. But I had a hard time fully comprehending his words. The man spoke too fast and his hair too purple. He then graciously showed me a decorative plate that costs a hefty ¥ 280000 (3400 US dollars) and a precious little Sake (rice wine) cup that costs a whopping ¥ 500000. That’s freakin' six thousand dollars gramps, I thought as I did the conversion in my head. He let me take a quick photo of the plate and then he wrapped them again with the same careful precision as he did the unpacking and gingerly placed them back into their individual signed wooden boxes. I felt honoured to have seen them and felt like a pauper at the same time. Clumsy me didn’t dare touch them of course.
I ended up splurging on a charming coffee cup.
A few more stops here and there and I was home. I was too sunny that I did a spending spree like there'd be no rainy days. Never mind, my morning coffee will taste more lusciously expensive I suppose.

ArtBee You sure do have the gift of presenting an image with a wonderful narrative attached. I love it! You must have been walking on egg shells in that shop. Costly bit of clay! Wow!

darfoster Yes, I don't think many of us could come up with that amount of money for a plate! Fun shots!

KatysPassionata thank you for this very tender and vulnerable insight into your world...I really enjoy reading your personal narratives and when I do, it reminds me of a time when I was just as vulnerable...although I'm not cynical about the world today...I sometimes feel as old as it :))) Beautiful pieces of a dream here!!

mawey geez, a couple of thousand bucks for THAT? looks like my and the japanese aesthetic evaluations are so off scale that it would need plenty of translation and quite some ZEN lessons to even get acquainted to each other... ;-)

beautiful re-focussing sequence on the second and third picture... kind of complements the thought process of your wonderfully personal text. i kind of feel like i'm reading the diary of murakami's sister in law.
