Thoreauly tiring.

2009.07.19
Sunday was such a pretty day, and I was on call so my sleep was all messed up, so I got up early and went to see what the Wetlands Art Project was all about.

The lands were indeed wet.

The map wasn't really that handy, honestly I didn't find a lot there.

There was this sculpture.

And these stones.

And a whole lot of grass.

I am glad I went, but it was a little dissapointing.

And on the way out I saw some evidence of vandalism.

On the way back, I stopped at the cemetery, which as far as I could tell only had 3 graves.

And they looked pretty mistreated

I dunno if that is the date of birth or death.

These things will evidently grow anywhere remotely wet.

Anyway, I decided to go back to that trail I had abandoned a week back, and that, it turns out, was really a bad decision.

I jumped off the trail for a bit and came out at the photo blind. That was bad of me.

Found more passion flower. The place is thick with it.

The trail ended up joining one of the outer paths. I decided to follow it left(south), which followed the shore of the lake.

After a mile or 2, it started to curve back north, and I thought to myself, "Ah, that is convenient, it goes in a big circle, I will just follow it back to the original trail."

I haven't seen one of these in a long time. The garden district used to be thick with them.

More than an hour later, and I am still headed north. I have picked up the pace and am really wondering if I shouldn't have doubled back. I know eventually that I will hit the boat ramp if I am wrong about the loop, but who knows how many miles that might be. Committed, I continued forward and hopped for the best.

Just as I started seeing trees in the north, which would indicate my original trail, the trail jogged back west and I really started to despair. Finally, there was a fork to the north. A rather large one. I shot off down it.

When I saw power lines, I knew I was a bit off from my car. But following the road would be much quicker than going back.

So I set off down the road. Honestly, walking on the road was painful in comparison to the trail, but my feet and pants were soaked from morning dew, so I wanted to give them a chance to dry, and stuck to the gravel.

I stopped briefly at the nature lookout, because, well, why not? and then started back on the road.

Finally I rounded the bend and I could see my trees.

And finally my car. Prettiest sight I have ever seen.
