i'm really not into bugs, and this lovely praying mantis is no exception. i was brave, though, and got some extreme close-ups. keep in mind, i don't have a telephoto lens. i was actually inches away from this bi-atch.
i'm not really sure what's going on with the brown part of its hindquarters. i've only ever seen them all green. when we let the dog out a little while later, the mantis had keeled over and died. brian suggested the brown part might be its entrails. if we continue with this discussion, i might barf.
