Flight to Friday Harbor

2008.05.12
My buddy with his new plane - lucky bastard...

Soon after takeoff headed north from Portland.

Washington state Capitol, just off the water.

Took my car GPS along for the ride to record the trip. The computer thinks I am in my car crossing the bay at 120 mph... (:

Circling to land at the Friday Harbor Airport. You can just see the grass surrounding the air port in the upper right of the picture.

I had never heard of Friday Harbor before last week yet was blown away by the scenic beauty.

I was surprised to see a full sized gigantic ferry dock after lunch. It was just out of view to the right of this photo.

This is the life.... You can walk from your fancy yacht to purchase fresh sea food right out your front door...

Coming for a landing after a wonderful day up north...

Just returned home from a Sunday visit to picture perfect town in the San Juan Islands off the Cost of Washington USA. My good friend recently bought a beautiful Grummand airplane and wanted to take it on a long full day adventure. We flew out of a small airport outside Portland Oregon and landed in Friday Harbor Washington. This picture postcard city is connected to the main land by ferry and airplane. This airport is very popular with NW pilots because it is located close to the city center. You can fly in and within 10 minutes walk to the city center which is located around a picturesque harbor. We enjoyed a lunch overlooking the harbor and spent a couple hours walking around the district and harbor.
