Japanese new years's decoration
Most homes and businesses in Japan hang a Shimekazari above the front door as a New Year decoration. These are made from sacred ropes braided from rice straws. Various good luck charms (an orange is a popular choice) are attached to them. The shimekazari wards off evil spirits and invites the god Kami to enter the house.
