Commemorating Martial Law

2008.09.30
Sample cell of a prisoner. In this kind of cell, many were tortured. A professor in UP, Roland Simbulan, were telling F and I how the real thng actually didn't have any bars--it was enclosed (in darkness! Only the hall had lights) and there is a small opening below where the food tray was pushed inside.

Also according to Simbulan, the toilet was just a hole in the ground with an overhanging faucet. There you do everything!

The most potent symbol during EDSA 1: the Virgin Mary.

The wall of names of the desaparecidos (disappeared), or those who died during Martial Law.

Strange tree where the following blocks with imprinted words were leaning on!

The offering of flowers.

Satur Ocampo being interviewed by the news crew.

It was my first time to attend a commemoration of the martial law era here in the Philippines! A bit embarrassing, as it is the period in our hstory I am most interested in. F and I went to the Bantayog ng mga Bayani (they texted me the night before), and naturally, I took shots of the event and the place.
