Reason to Design... #110:

"...TO RECONSTRUCT TIME AND CHALLENGE DECAY"

This is an installation by Clementine Hanbury and Laura Harrison, from the Royal College of Art's MA Industrial Design Engineering Department. Named 'Longplayer ' it is a physical interpretation of Jem Finer's thousand year score.

As as an experimental piece it explores the ability of an open system to render time tangible; by absorbing imprints of sound and capturing echoes, it allows time to be experiences in layers, as shifting cycles. As a self-perpetuating recording medium, it becomes a strategy for it's own survival, embracing its own decay through continuous recreation.
