Reason to Design... #116:
"...TO NOTE THAT STATION WHILE EATING YOUR TOAST"
In North London the types of radio station vary. Some are licensed and some of them totally illegal, however, Yuri Suzuki likes them all. Unfortunately these stations often disappear and in other cases new stations are born. It is from these experiences, Yuri designed a radio that enables the user to make notes about a radio station and mark its position. He designed an interface that can be controlled with one hand because often people listen to the radio while doing something else, in Yuri's case this is while cooking and nibbling on morning delicacies. To talk particularly about the interface, Yuri says "This radio looks like a memo pad, but underneath is a speaker; the pencil acts as the antenna that controls tuning and volume".
Yuri's work along with other radio projects from the MA Design Product department can be seen at the 2008 Interim Show, Royal College of Art in London, UK.
