Reason to Design... #117:
"... TO EXPRESS THE SIMPLE THINGS IN LIFE"
Minimalism is the aim when it comes to Ill-Gu Cha's Radio from the Design Products MA 2008 Interim show at the Royal College of Art. Ill-Gu Cha feels that the radio is a simple electronic product with only three functions: tuning, volume and FM/AM control, hence his radio look simple. "There are no graphics or buttons on my surface of the radio". However, the functions become apparent as soon as you move the object. The user can control the volume and tuning of the FM/AM radio by moving it back and forth, left and right. He shapes the radio like a mouse to encourage users to move it. Like the great Bruno Munari of the Italian futurist movement, Ill-Gu Cha believes that progress means simplifying, not complicating.
