Reason to Design... #124:
"...TO TURN THE KIDS ENERGY INTO ECO-POWER"
While on Coventry University's Transport & Product Design course, Daniel Sheridan has planed an eco-friendly future for developing parts of the world. His triple award winning see-saw - named the 'Energee-Saw' - harnesses the playful energy of children to make power. He has calculated that 5 to 10 minutes use on the Energee-Saw could generate enough electricity to light a classroom for an evening, for example - an essential in parts of the world where lessons actually stop because of bad light. In a BBC interview Daniel says "Ultimately I would love to design a whole playground of different pieces of equipment that could generate electricity". Maybe he should take on the British Isles as well to help the current carbon footprint problems.
Daniels See-saw is on display at the 'Re/active' at Coventry University, UK until 5th June 2008. Read more about the project
