MOP - Brands

A few pictures here, sorry I really couldn't decide on just one or two. The MOP snuck up on me this month and hadn't even started planning it out when I noticed a post last night. . . oops
PATRON Reposado . . . my introduction to Premium Tequila
Look for the Bee . . . a symbol of high quality if you drink Tequila
The last 5 shots are of the most expensive bottle I have ever bought. GRAN PATRON Platinum. It was supposed to last me a couple years, only to be drank at special occasions. Suddenly there was a lot of special occasions in the month following my first taste. Platinum is miles above other Premium Silver Tequilas but it is stupid expensive and not worth buying more than once in your life.
The bottle is not glass, it is a handmade crystal piece of art that is hand polished, hand signed and numbered with an etched label. (according to the write up inside the wooden box)
Patron is one of the more popular Premium Tequilas on the market outside of Mexico and the most common sold in resturants, lounges and bars. Silver (white) and Reposado (gold) are the most common, where as the Añejo is a bit harder to find since it is an aquired taste. All three are a fine drink and worthy of the higher price you pay, but the popularity Patron is not because it's the best, it is popular because it's the best marketed Premium Tequila. All three varieties are actually the blandest/safest when you compare them to other Premium Tequilas of each type. I am not saying thats a bad thing, I enjoy Patron very much, enough to buy many bottles over the years. Where as most Whiskey, Vodka, or Scotch drinkers stick to one or two brands, a Tequila drinker is more like a Wine drinker and likes the variety of subtle flavors within their perfered types.

lookagain Nice collection of shots for the MOP, Roger - interesting variety of angles! It just occurred to me while reading your information about Patron that I spelled something wrong in my recent dog post. The dog's owner told me his name was Patron and she mentioned tequila. I'd never heard of it, and assumed it was spelled Petrone ;)) Guess I better go fix it....thanks!

Jarvo Great post - I'm sure it's not the only product where the brand value is more than just the quality of the product.

????? It's all beyond me -- I just don't like alcoholic beverages -- guess I never grew up... But thanks for reminding me of the MOP and you certainly did it justice -- nice photos.

IShuttertoThink If you say so :-) I'll trust ya. Very interesting on how much time and expense they put into a bottle.

RayNvb I must confess that I know little about alcohol, but I do like Tequeila. I will have to start paying attention to brand and subtle taste. Do they have Tequeila tastings as they do wine?
RayNvb · 2011-05-05: 04:37
