In collaboration with the Japanese community in Parma yesterday, in the square of the Peace in Parma, took place the commemoration ceremony of Tōrō Nagashi, an event celebrated every year in Japan.
Tōrō Nagashi (灯籠流し) is a Japanese ceremony in which participants float paper lanterns (chōchin) down a river; tōrō is traditionally another word for lantern, while nagashi means "cruise, flow". This is primarily done on the last evening of the Bon (Obon) Festival, based on the belief that this guides the spirits of the departed back to the other world.
During this ceremony are also commemorate the atomic explosions at Hiroshima and Nagasaki (August 6 and 9, 1945).
