Gaza children... (1997)...

2008.02.29

Perhaps, some of these children we can see in the pictures, have already died...
Yesterday, were killed in Gaza Strip another nine civilians, tree children and five months infant, another four were critically wounded.
Gaza’s children, inheritors of the world’s longest-running conflict, now also bear the brunt of new import and border controls. They make out more than half of the 1.4 million residents of this coastal strip of land along the Mediterranean Sea, about 41 kilometers long, and between 6 and 12 kilometers wide, with a total area of 360 square kilometers.
At 1997 there was an important change of prisoners in Israel. Ahmed Yassin, Hamas political lider, recovered the freedom. It started in the region a historic hopefull moment...And I wanted to perceive it myself. I liked to meet the situation, nearest, inside... I wish to shake the hand to this misjudged culture. I desired to keep in touch whith Yassin and shake him my hand...
He was in siesta when hamas taxi driver fetched me to his home. But I insisted on. So they acceded finally. They invited me to take a cup of coffee with cakes. When he turned up on his wheelchair, he looked an exposed man, weak and tired... I realized he was not the devil...
We kept a short but intense and gently conversation. His voice was too smooth. The driver translated every single word...
I left home followed by some Hamas security men. Outside, children tasted a typical meal...When I arrived to the Erez check point, it was closed...Yon Kipur day...
So I have to come back to Gaza Strip. I stayed within a reasonable time to evidence myself that the palestinians nature is peaceful and cheery... I found the real palestinian`s face in Gaza...

Where the children felt the atmosphere laughing with a ball in their hands, fearless a skyrocket break up their bodies...
Fearless to catch crawfish inside the drainage boulders of the beach...They were happy.
Fearless to go to the college, without glancing up to the sky...
Fearles to hunger...
Despite poverty, Gaza people, fearless waited a better future...

Impedimenta This is so powerful. Gives me goosebumps and brings tears to my eyes... I know people in Jerusalem, and my thoughts go to them... The children portraits tell very strong stories, and they are filled with so much emotion.

Truly amazing set.
